Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight has taken audiences by storm and one inescapable piece of that success has been the film’s stirring soundtrack by composer Nicholas Britell. Though the film sadly didn’t manage to snag the Oscar for Best Original Score, the score remains one of the most poignant we’ve come across in a while.
Much of the score is classical in nature, working beautifully in concert to both mirror and magnify the film’s poetry-like presence. Yet, Britell has mentioned in interviews previously, the soundtrack already features some chopped and screwed takes on its own signature themes. Purple Moonlight, the new treatment on the Moonlight soundtrack, comes courtesy of OG Ron C and the Chopstars.
