A New Behind the Scenes Look at the Making of Paranormal Activity

It’s been over a decade since the release of the first Paranormal Activity.  The supernatural film borrowed from The Blair Witch Project found footage sub-genre aesthetic to make viewers skin crawl and stomachs drop. With just a modest $15,000 budget the film managed to earn over $193 million at the box office.

This week, Paranormal Activity film director Oren Peli lifted the curtain on how is crew prepped for the horror flick – including how they cast their two leads.  In a video uploaded to YouTube, Peli shares footage from the Paranormal Activity audition process.  More than a thousand people responded to films casting call, but ultimately it was Katie Featherstone and Micah Sloat’s performances that one the director over.

Check out how both won Peli over with their completely improvised auditions, including some moments that made it into the real Paranormal Activity, above.
