Patti Cake$ closed a $10.5M deal with Fox Searchlight after an intense auction night at Sundance. Although the film received positive reviews from critics, it does pose a risk for Searchlight’s box office revenue.

Searchlight past films like Me and Earl and the Dying Girl were from Sundance and were praised by critics but did poorly at the box office. Searchlight last year closed a deal with Birth of a Nation for $17.5 million, the largest film deal at the festival to date, but only managed to snag $16.5 million at the box office.
