American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy will be honored at this year’s Women in Entertainment Power 100 breakfast with The Hollywood Reporter’s inaugural Equity in Entertainment Award for his 10-month-old Half foundation.

After attending last year’s Women in Entertainment Power 100 breakfast, it occurred to Murphy that he held a position of power that could have a positive impact on creating a more equitable industry for women. In February, he launched ‘Half’, a foundation devoted to mentoring TV newcomers who are women, people of color and/or identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community toward occupying at least 50 percent of the directing slots on his roster of series including: American Crime Story,  American Horror Story, Scream Queens, and the upcoming Feud.

Just ten months later Murphy has kept good on his promise, with 60 percent of his directing gigs being handed off to women, in stark comparison with the industry standard: a meager 17 percent.
