Stephen King has always been blunt about his reviews on film adaptations of his books. If it’s bad, it’s bad. He still disapproves Stanley Kubrick’s classic horror The Shining. In fact, King was not on board with Kubrick’s adaptation and went on to create a TV miniseries that was campier and less of a cinematic masterpiece. So when the upcoming It movie was in the works, it–no pun intended–was inevitable that King watched an advanced screening.
It producer Seth Grahame-Smith shared King’s positive rating and posted it on Instagram over the weekend.
Horror fans can go into theaters knowing that the film has King’s stamp of approval. It premieres on September 8, 2017.
